HOW TO GIVE A KING’S SPEECH

Unlike our King and Queen, not many of us are ‘privileged’ by being noble at birth. Yet even we, mere mortals, are able to give a speech like a true King. Hoorah! But in order to do so, you have to take a good look at yourself and your speeching skills. Even the best presenter (or King?) will tell you that he has room for improvement. You may know your content, but can you truly get your point across?

Here are 5 tips on how to give a King’s (or Queen’s) Speech:

  1. Develop a Great Opening

You need to grab your audience’s attention at the very beginning. Avoid the common mistake of going straight into your presentation without a hook.

  1. Organize Your Presentation

Your presentation should have an obvious opening, a body, and a close. The human brain remembers only three things, plus or minus two. Leave out the ‘verbal diarrea’!

  1. Own the Room

Take a two- to three-second pause before you start your presentation to focus all the attention on you and truly be in charge.

  1. Connect With Your Audience

You need to establish early on why your audience should listen to what you have to say. Never forget the WIIFM – what’s in it for me?

  1. Remember, ‘Content Is King’

Make your presentation about your audience, not you. Your audience is interested to hear about information that impacts them directly. They want to learn something new or how to do something better than they know how to do it.

So find your voice as a royal presenter, and leave them speechless!
